3.2 Perspiring and aspiring
Last Sunday morning, once again, I dropped by to see Yuji and Fox. Yuji was on the phone, to a Kamakura bar owner, trying to make the final arrangements for this summer's Rock4four beach parties. So I took the opportunity to chat with Fox.
I asked him what has influenced and inspired him the most."Definitely Fatboy Slim" comes the answer. "I'm from brighton, so it makes me doubly proud that someone who lives there has chosen to stay there. I mean, you look at the Beatles, or Oasis, who split to London, as soon as they're successful, and on the other hand you look at acts like New Order, or Fatboy Slim, who stay true to their roots. So I'm most inspired by them, because they stay where they belong, and give something back to their communities", enthuses the Brightonian expat, as we look over his adopted home of Yokohama, from the balcony of his luxury apartment.
I am about to query what he's just said, when Yuji finishes his phone conversation, and shouts over:
"Right. It's pretty much sorted out now. but I've just gotta go down to Kamakura on monday, to finalise one or two things. So if either of you two feel like a trip to the beach..."
Nah", replies fox. "I'll see enough of the place over the next couple of months. and I'm a bit behind schedule, with a couple of rock tracks, that I'm working on. Why not take Des?"
"How about it, then?" Yuji asks me.
"Sounds great" I reply. "Oh, wait, I've got a friend, who's new in town, who I promised to show around"
"Well, bring them too", insists Yuji.
"Fantastic idea. I'm sure they'll love it. Thanks"
"Sorted, then", says Yuji.
